SciShow 2019

  • 6 Minerals Rarer (and Cooler?) than Diamonds (note, the script uses “sublimate” (verb) for describing fingerite. It’s because the original academic paper discovering the mineral refers to it as a “sublimate” (noun). It comes from the older use of the verb to describe the full process of the compounds being turned into a gas and then back into a solid, which is what’s happening in this case. The compounds that went into fingerite didn’t start out as a gas. Probably would have been easier to just use “desublimate”, though. That’s my bad.)
  • Earthquake-‘proof’ building techniques (yes, I did write the phrase “massive swinging balls” for the middle school boys in the audience…)
