With Chuck Berry’s death, the fact that his song Johnny B. Goode is on the 12-in Voyager Golden (actually gold-plated copper) Record – found abroad both Voyager 1 and 2 – has been floating around the internet. Carl Sagan chaired the committee that picked the contents of the record, which includes images, sounds, music, and greetings in 55 languages. They must have really liked Bach, that committee, because he’s on there 3 times (Beethoven twice)…
You can listen to the sounds and greetings by clicking on these links. You can’t, sadly, hear the music, but if you go to the Black Rose Tavern in Edinburgh on Wednesday nights for karaoke, Johnny B. Goode is (or at least was) one of the, like, five songs that the DJ has on repeat to switch to in between acts.
